Other Obsessions: Sewing days!
The baby shower has really kicked off this preparation mode.
And I decided that it was time for me to get back into some serious sewing (my fabric stash is also getting out of hand!)
I picked out some patterns and fabrics from my stash. They're organized in a way -- An easy project after a more complicated one, slippery/drapey fabric after crispy fabric, etc. I couldn't wait to get started!
I started with some fast sewing projects for the baby. Sewing for baby was an interesting process. I had to think about, is this fabric good for babies? Buttons or zippers? Is this going to be easy washable and sturdy enough for the dryer?
Currently, I'm taking a short break from sewing for the tiny person, and focusing my energy on sewing for myself. Although I'm limited in what I can fit into these days (tshirts and knits are still ok; woven fabric dresses are not!), I'm going to appreciate a closet with new handmade additions once I get this baby out of me!
I'm working on my 3rd Macaron dress by Colette Patterns. I keep going back to this pattern for a lot of my fabrics. It works well with sheer fabrics (for the yoke) and dressy materials as well as crisp cotton blends. It's a very versatile design, as it can be dressed up or down.
I always omit the pockets, and for this one I cut one layer of sleeves, instead of 2 (the pattern makes you cut 4 pieces of sleeves). I just need to sew the skirt portion into the bodice and then put in an invisible zipper on the side. I love the print of this fabric! I got 5 yards of this fabric from Michael Levine Loft in downtown LA. I think it was a special order print fabric for some designer, because the order sticker was still stapled on one end. I think this will be an awesome dress for this summer!
