Pattern: Simplicity 1253 (D5); View C – Sleeveless top

Size: Sz 12 – (34/26.5/36)

Fabric: Cotton Lawn 100% Cotton, Garden Grey/Blue from Fabric.com

I just bought this pattern on sale at Joann not too long ago. I loved how simple and timeless the top looked, and the number of variations given in the pattern.

I used a very lightweight cotton lawn I bought from Fabric.com a couple of years ago, but I think it would look very professional and polished in wool crepe fabric as well, especially in View D with ¾ length sleeves.

I think cotton lawn has become my new favorite fabric to sew with. It's the perfect balance between crispness and flowiness, making the fabric suitable for flowy skirts and casual shirts. In California, I could even wear this to work, depending on the print.

I skipped the loop, and decided to just use a hook and an eye for the neck closure. The instructions and the diagrams were surprisingly easy to understand. I usually work with indie designer patterns, so I thought this would be a nightmare. The only thing I had trouble with was how the armbands seemed to be too big for the armhole. It all worked out in the end and I love the result.
