Other Obsessions: Baby Things

Last Saturday, I hosted our monthly knitting meeting. I've been knitting with these women since I graduated from law school, so we've known each other for more than 5 years!

About 2 weeks ago, a knitter from our group texted me and asked me to choose a blanket pattern, yarn, and colors. It totally made my day! I went straight to my Favorites on Ravelry, and picked out this Chevron Baby Blanket by Purl Soho, and Knit Picks Wool of Andes Superwash, and picked out colors. I tried to find the colors that were used in the Purl Soho's sample, which were Grass, Avocado, Oyster, Marble and Cobblestone.

I guess it's not unusual for me to be obsessed with baby things at this point. So far, my husband and I purchased the stroller, which came with an infant carseat, and Pack n Play thing which comes with a napper/bassinet and a changing station. We're going to wait and see if we need a baby crib when the baby is actually here, since so many people said that they never used their crib, and I'm really trying to take the minimalist approach to this baby gear things. Since Logan is our first, we really don't know what we absolutely need, so we would rather wait and see about most things. Especially with our Amazon membership with free two-day shipping (usually we get our things the next day actually), I think we can wait on a lot of things.

We did get a Boppy baby lounger and a  cradle/swing from a friend who just had a baby in August. These things already are filling up our second bedroom!

And this Saturday we're hosting a small gathering for friends which will unofficially be our baby shower. I know that traditionally, baby showers are arranged by someone else, but with all our family members living abroad and close friends living far away, in addition to my husband and my tendency to keep everything very low profile and casual (like our wedding!), we decided to just do something at home, treat our friends to some delicious treats, since for most of them this would be the first time they're seeing our new-ish home that we moved into 2 years ago.

Other than that, I'm doing ok. I got to chat with my mom on the phone for a bit before she had to lie down again. She's still feeling very weak. Having a busy to-do list is helping me too, since I don't have a lot of down time to sit and think negative thoughts. And the past few days have been so hot here in So Cal -- 85 deg during the day! And extremely dry. My husband said I was struggling to breathe last night. I eventually got up and made some wet towels to hang around the bed and that helped. Ugh! It's January! Some  might think it's a blessing, but it's still extremely annoying to have to constantly change between shorts/short sleeves and long coats in the same month. My closet is always full and I never really get to wear any of my handknit sweaters.. Not to mention this dry weather is really dangerous around here because of the brushfires and extreme draught. So hopefully the weather forecast is correct and it'll cool down this week.
